In 2021, Prairie Valley School Division commissioned a professional growth plan for White City and Emerald Park. It found both elementary schools at or above capacity, identified a new high school as the division's top capital priority, and recommended additional elementary capacity as an urgent next step.
The schools are already full. Both local elementary schools - École White City School and Emerald Ridge Elementary - were at or above capacity in 2021, with utilization projected to keep climbing. Emerald Ridge was already using common spaces as classrooms.
A plan has existed for over ten years. PVSD has been submitting capital requests for a new White City high school since 2013. In 2021, the professional growth plan confirmed the need and recommended a new high school as the immediate top priority, followed by a new elementary school.
The Province acted on part of the plan -The Province funded the modernization of Greenall High School in Balgonie. The new White City high school and new elementary school have not been approved or funded.
