About Room To Learn
Vision
A growing community where children have the space they need to learn and thrive close to home, and where new school capacity is planned and built to keep pace with growth in the area.
Mission
Surface and organize community support for additional school capacity
Help decision-makers understand the need
Build broader public awareness
The goal is to make the case for additional school capacity in White City, Emerald Park, and the surrounding area clear, visible, and durable until the need becomes a funded commitment.
Principles
Community-led.
Room To Learn gives residents and supporters a visible, organized place to learn, participate, and show support.
Non-partisan.
Room To Learn engages decision-makers across party lines. It does not endorse candidates or political parties.
Evidence-based.
The case is grounded in growth data, enrolment, school capacity, and public planning documents. Room To Learn comes forward with facts and clear asks.
Positive and constructive.
This is about moving the file forward, not creating unnecessary conflict. Room To Learn can challenge when necessary while still treating decision-makers as partners, not opponents.
Focused.
Room To Learn stays centered on additional school capacity. It does not become a catch-all for unrelated local or provincial issues.
Persistent.
School capital decisions take time. Room To Learn keeps the issue visible across more than one news cycle, meeting, or budget until the need becomes a funded commitment.
How does Room To Learn help?
Build A Homebase For Sustained Advocacy
The support for more school capacity already exists. It shows up in conversations, social media, news coverage, and public meetings. But it has never had a durable, organized home. Room To Learn aims to be that home. School capital decisions can take years and cross multiple budget cycles.
Room To Learn keeps the issue visible and the community organized for as long as it takes.
Grow Awareness and Support
Many residents already understand the pressure. But provincial decision-makers may not have a clear picture of the scale and pace of growth, or what it means for school capacity day to day.
Room To Learn explains the issue in plain language, shares the evidence, and collects community stories - so that the need is easy to understand, hard to dismiss, and connected to real people and real growth.
Evidence-based.
Community support only moves the file if it reaches the right people at the right time.
Room To Learn organizes that engagement - with PVSD, local councils, MLAs, and the Ministry of Education - aligned to the budget cycle and the capital planning process. The goal is not pressure for its own sake. It is making the case easier to act on.
